AT-D878UV GPS Fix.
« on: December 18, 2018, 09:18:01 pm »
For those who are having problems getting the GPS to lock on in their AT-D878UV, this application note will give a way of doing it most of the time.

Update the radio to the latest firmware. In my testing I used version 1.09. To update, press the PTT and the top blue button while you are turning on the radio.
If you updated the firmware,+ set the code plug back to factory default by pressing the PTT and the key just below the PTT while you are turning on power.
The radio will then say "Are you sure you want to Initialize radio?". Press the confirm key.
About 12 seconds later the radio is going to have a Calibrate Date screen. Press the Confirm key.
When possible, press the menu key. Set the GPS to on and set the "Light Time" to "Always"
Press the PTT and 3 Key while you are turning on the power. The radio will say "Test GPS" and there will be two lines of data.
The top line under the title will have a "V" or an "A" while it is trying to lock on. When you see three or four data lines and the top line has an "A" it means it is locked. Then turn off the power.
Turn off the power and turn it back on again. When the GPS Icon is locked it will turn red. The radio now has an operational GPS that is ready to use.

Item 7 should take less than a minute from start to being locked.
Item 8 should turn red in less than 3 minutes.

Items 6-8 should be done outside where there is no blockage of the GPS signal. Depending on the construction of the building you are in, it will sometimes work indoors.

We update all our AnyTone radios to the latest firmware and do the GPS test before we ship the radios.
