Pi-Star Configuration for TGIF
« on: January 13, 2019, 02:17:04 pm »
Pi-Star is now very easy to get on the TGIF Network since Robert (K4WVZ) worked with Andy (MW0MWZ) to get TGIF Added to the Main list of servers.
To get onto the TGIF Network on Pi-Star:

1. Logon to your Dashboard
2. Goto Configuration
3. Go down to "DMR Configuration"
4. Drop the "DMR Master" box down and look for TGIF_Network towards the top.
5. Select TGIF_Network and click Apply Changes.
6. After it reloads the config, it should connect to the TGIF Network.

Below is a screenshot of what your DMR Configuration should look like:

Just key up on the talk group you want

no need to disconnect (ie 4000)

you can only be on one at a time

unless you go to TG 777 and you hear them all

I can not get my dashboard for nothing.ugh. I tried a Dell laptop and a apple pro

You need to be on the same network as the hotspot is connected to
Open a browser and if you know the IP address enter that
If you don’t know then try pi-star.local

Hi

This is Belayet Robin - VK2VRB
New to TGIF network.
Using Pi-Star with Zumspot
I have noticed an issue with Pi-Star when selecting TGIF_Network from drop down list.
It appears to be Pi-Star DMR Configuration lost its settings when i select TGIF network for the first time.

Only solution I have found to reset the Pi-Star on its factory default and re configure as new.
I know another person having the same issue.

Regards,
Belayet

Not sure if info is here, yet
Before pi-star added the TGIF to master server list
We were adding it manually

I’ll look and link instructions when I can

to manually add tgif the old way

SSH into rasberry pi

user pi-star
password raspberry

enter these commands
sudo su
rpi-rw
cd ..
cd ..
dir
(should see a 'root' directory)

cd root
dir
(should see 'DMR_Hosts.txt' file)

sudo nano DMR_Hosts.txt

(add this line at the bottom)
TGIF_Network2   9   tgif.network   passw0rd   62031
note- those are not spaces, but a single tab

(ctl) O to save
(ctl) X to exit

then do a update

then select the new server at the bottom of the server list

Really dumb question, but since I'm on day 5 of my DMR experience....here goes:

What purpose is it to follow the above steps? Currently, I have my hotspot connected to the BM3102. Why would I want to connect the the TGIF Network instead?

Thanks in advance...

above is the way we use to manually add a server not on pi-star server list.

"Why would I want to connect the the TGIF Network instead?"
better question... why would you settle for or limit yourself to one server?

I have:
BM
TGIF
DMR+
DMR marc (cbridge)
several private servers

It just happens that TGIF does have its own flavor and features not on all others:
Server built from the ground up by Ty, KG5RKI, Michael K5MRE, Jason KD5TJG, Andy G7LRR
No ADMIN games! ( Robert, K4WZV, Admin ) ( Mitch, EA7KDO, Admin )
777 scan all TG
no need to 4000 disconnect, just move on to a TG
A growing list of Talk groups designed by users, for users
Bridging aloud on your TG (except BM, per their request)

also:
A selfcare page
Last heard and active talkers pages
audio streaming a few and growing TGs that actually works!
Wiki for the Talk Groups
A Forum
A Face Book Group
Hot Spot & Nextion screen development & support, no matter where you got them (on all above sources TG 31665 or 1000)
The TGIF net is held on talkgroup 3 1 6 6 5 every Friday at 8:30 pm eastern standard time

All this and more in a few months!
more  to come

This may sound like a dumb question however, I am totally new to DMR/HotSpot.
I purchased the AnyTone 878 but haven't received my HotSpot yet. Do I have to program my radio to work with the TGIF network?
It is programmed into the Pi-Star but my radio is blank. Really needing a crash course on this!

Thanks,
PuJo

yes you will have to program the radio to talk to/thru the hot spot

if you got the hot spot from Robert it should be ready to run

you need to know the Freq it is set up for
color code (default =1)
time slot (default=2)
the talk groups (channels) you want to talk on (31665 is the main channel) see the list here http://tgif.network/talkgroups.php

I found that the issue was my hot spot was not doing good on the internet here in Belize. back in the States it performed pretty good. however I bought a dual hat from N5BOC, after setup my ber stayed below .3 and all my issues resolved. in Belize it worked as good as in the us.

Man am I having issues!
I have a MD-UV380, got the code plug that Robert posted..
I have the chinese jumbo hot spot on an raspberry pi zero.
I have the latest pi-start running.
My settings will get me on the network, Barely.
After I transmit and ID then it goes into listening DMR Trx, is yellow then will turn green.
If I try to answer someone that is listening, I key up but nothing happens,
After a min or so then it will start transmitting, and its like a timer kicks me out, I barely say anything before the hotspot stops the link.
When someone answers I wait till I see listening and then try to transmitt.. nothing happens.
so I wait a bit and then can start to transmit only to be cut off as reporter by the other ham..
AnyOne have an idea as to what is going on??

MD-UV380 toggle to TGIF Master leaves me on Brandmeister. Puzzle...

To get here I modded a perfectly functioning BM UV-380 codeplug. For here, referencing the TGIF channel list, I added 10 new digital contacts and 10 new channels and dumped all into a TGIF zone list.

I change the Pi-Star v4.1.0 rc7 / 20200203 Configuration to the TGIF Master, apply the change and wait for the screen to roll around. All seems well.

Turn on the radio, change to the TGIF zone, select a TGIF channel, keyup and ... nadda.

Dropped back to an rc 4 July 2019 card. Same thing. Foobar.

Friends more knowledgeable than I with 8 and 10 years DMR experience are stumped. Any ideas? Eyeballs several times around are stumped.  Thanks.
