Recent TGIF changes and Pi-Star
« on: July 03, 2021, 08:49:43 pm »
I had my hotspot programmed for both TGIF and BM and it was working beautifully through the DMR Gateway.  TGIF recently made some changes and made the popular TGIF TG31665 "secure".  In order to get on the secure TG I was required to change my Pi-Star/Configuration/Expert MMDVM Host settings in the DMR Network box to "TGIF.NETWORK" and enter my TGIF Password.  When I applied the changes I lost all the previous BM programming and was no longer able to use my hotspot.  Fortunately, I made a backup copy of my original Pi-Star SD chip and was able to get back on with my DMR Master showing both TGIF and BM networks.  BM is now working and I'm not sure about the TGIF network.  I DO know my callsign does not appear on the TGIF.Network Monitor.  Bummer!  I really liked that TG.  With the NEW TGIF changes, is there a way to keep my original dual network programming while being able to log into the secure TG31665 so that I may enjoy the TGIF 31665  again??

Through the DMR Gateway.  There's the clue.

TGIF recently made some changes and made the popular TGIF TG31665 "secure".  In order to get on the secure TG I was required to change my Pi-Star/Configuration/Expert MMDVM Host settings

And there's the problem.  You were using the Gateway, so the change(s) you need to make should be made in the Pi-Star/Configuration/Expert/DMR GW settings, not in the MMDVM area.  You basically told MMDVMHOST to stop talking to/using the Gateway and start talking just to TGIF.

With the NEW TGIF changes, is there a way to keep my original dual network programming while being able to log into the secure TG31665 so that I may enjoy the TGIF 31665  again??

Yes, and very easily in fact.  Go into the Pi-Star/Configuration/Expert/DMR GW settings, look for the Password=passw0rd line under the stanza for the TGIF network, and change passw0rd to the secure password you were given.  Apply changes.  Done.

I tried that and it didn't work.  I'm wondering if my problems are associated with this new post:  https://tgifnetwork.createaforum.com/new-board/new-stock-versions-of-mmdvmhost-with-dmrgateway-has-bugs/?topicseen

Before, my TGIF network wasn't working and NOW, both TGIF and BM are not working.  My Pi-Star Dashboard displays my key up but, neither TGIF.Network "Last Heard" and BM, "Last Heard" shows my key up sop I'm not connecting with either.  In other words, my hotspot is dead. :'(

Did you try that on the original card or the backup one? If the former, did you remember to set the mmdvmhost setting(s) that you changed back to what they were? Or, even better/easier: Restore from a Pi-Star backup (you do those in addition to the rpi-clones, right?  ;) )?

As far as the bugs mentioned in that post, I can assure you that the latest mmdvmhost communicates just fine with Phil's modified Gateway.  I have two hotspots both running 4.1.5 with his Gateway as proof of that.  So I'm inclined to believe that it's not your binaries but, rather, something in one of your config files to blame.
