Got new memory card, hotspot recieving, no audio to radio

(1/1)

W1SPS:
Hello all,
I just picked up this TGIF spot from another Ham that just wasn’t interested. When I got it the Dashboard was blue and when on wired internet it seemed to work. Couldn’t seem to get to to connect wireless. It was picking up calls from all over. My Btech 6x2 wasn’t getting any audio though. I would get static when the hotspot showed someone was talking (i was almost there).

Then while in the dashboard I clicked on update. It updated, rebooted and now the dashboard was red. I cannot connect to Wi-Fi, hotspot says waiting for data with wired internet, dashboard says all modes are not enabled, etc. It pretty much won’t do anything now.

Anyone know how to fix this? I’ve been messing with this for two days. I don’t know enough about this to even ask the right questions.

Also, which Modem/radio in the configuration screen should I be using?

Thanks,
Rich W1SPS

Hi Rich,

I don't know of how much help I can be, but I'll try.  Literally too many variables/not enough information to work with.

I do believe that the correct modem type should be: STM32-DVM / MMDVM_HS - Raspberry Pi Hat (GPIO) though.

One thing to understand: You simply cannot get a hotspot from another ham and expect it to work right out of the box.  There are too many different ways that the ham you got it from could have configured it, both basic and complex, to expect that.  At the most basic level, you're likely to see differences with the RX/TX offsets for his radio versus yours.

My recommendation would be to start from scratch with a fresh version of Pi-Star.  Yes, it's a long and somewhat complicated road.  Yes, it's going to take some time.  But you'll benefit from A) Having a hotspot that you can truly call yours because it will have YOUR settings/configurations and no one else's and B) You will learn some necessary skills that will help you understand your hotspot/digital radio better.

I wasn’t expecting it to work in the previous owners configuration. It never connected to my Wi-Fi even when it was “sort of” working on a wired connection. When it sort of worked I could hear the radio when the hotspot showed it was actively receiving but all I heard was static on the radio. Then I accidentally hit “upgrade” when in the dashboard. Then it never worked again. In talking to Robert he seems to think the firmware was corrupted. I ordered a new memory card pre-set up. Hopefully it is that simple.

Installation of new memory card in Hotspot went well.
Set Btech 6x2 HT to same uplink and downlink frequency as Hotspot.
Sent a message to "Parrot" and it came back just fine.
However, when something is picked up on the Hotspot when "Listening" the receiving the green light on HT flashes but no sound is heard on the HT.

Anyone have a sample "Channel Set-up" from their Btech 6x2 that works? You know, the screen where you set your frequency, time slot, color code, and such.
Maybe I have a timeslot or Color code wrong, but I don't think so.

Are there any other settings on the radio that might have something to do with this?

Any help would be appreciated. I'm usually an HF guy. These HT's I find a bit confusing.
