DMRGateway Revised Jan 17 2019
« on: January 17, 2019, 10:26:24 pm »
DMRGateway Revised 17 Jan 2019 is still Beta. Beta Testers Welcome.
Features   (compiled and tested on Pi-Star 4.0.0 RC2)

1) StartNet - parameter added to ini file General Section that selects the network to start when DMRGateway starts up   /etc/dmrgateway   or Dashboard Expert / Full Edit: DMR GW. This may need to bev added manually.     StartNet=4  for TGIF

2) Net 0 mode (TG90000) disables all network switches. Hopefully useful for duplex boards(not tested), 500000 numbers for TGIF will work, all networks active if a tg is opened on it.

3) Net 1 -5 modes set with TG90001-90005.  BM on Net1, TGIF on Net 4

More information and install instructions can be found at

Please add comments to this thread if you have any issues.

Hi Phil.

OK, works great on v3 but having some issues with Pi-Star:4.0.0-RC3 / Dashboard: 20190119 and DMRGateway version 20181201 git #135f60a
If I try and set a BrandMeister server > click apply and then reboot, it just comes back with no changes.
It does connect to TGIF fine, but seems when you choose a master > hit apply, it is not saving the configuration to /etc/DMRGateway

As a follow on, I manually edited to use my server of choice and it does seem OK backend wise, but does not show in pi-star under DMR Master

OK, I see that pi-star cannot parse # in dmrgateway.
Removed those and it seems fine now.

On mine, it only selects the BM_2001 Master, It won't save what I select.

ALSO, when trying to edit the "DMR GW" in expert settings, it won't allow you to display and edit the file.  It's like the file doesn't exist.

So, I reverted back to a backup, removing the gateway :(

Not sure what you are doing here. You must select dmrgateway as the DMR Master Server. The BM Server is selected from a drop down list that has nothing to do wth the DMRGateway. A pistar script then partially updates Network 1 as Brandmeister and you then must complete the setup by applying whatever rules you want to work with.

You can select which network you want to boot into by setting the StartNet parameter in the /etc/dmrgateway file, [General] area.  (You may have to add it. This is available either by ssh into pi-star or in the dashboard under expert/Full Edit DMR GW.  I run Pi-Star 4.0.0 RC3 with the gateway and both Full Edit DMR GW, and Quick Edit DMR GW function as ecpected.

I flashed a new card with 4.0.0 RC2, upgraded to RC3 and did all the updates/upgrades before installing the DMRGateway, and all is working just fine.

[General]
StartNet=1      (will boot up into BM)
StartNet=4      (will boot up into TGIF)

TL;DR; for Phil,
Why does the RC3 downloaded version (not upgraded from RC2) not like the dmrgateway file having comments '#' in it? I assume on your tests it did have them?

This was the issue I had. If you look in the /etc/dmrgateway file (after installing the beta gateway),  you will notice it has comments in it that look like this # BrandMeister. If you delete all of the lines with # at the start and save it, you will be able to use pi-star as normal and all will work as expected, including setting servers and using the expert editor.

The DMRGasteway.ini file in the folder Phils installer creates (with the source code in it) has these comments in (Which I assume is taken from the main repository by G4KLX and has Phils modifications added).

What I don't know is, why does our versions of RC3 not like the comments, as I assume from what Phil is saying, his has no issues with the comments being there.
Mine was a straight download of RC3. I didn't install RC2 and then upgrade. I wonder if that makes a difference?

My test version has no comments

The original pi-star DMRGateway.ini file that is used to create the /etc/dmrgateway file had the comments. However the first time you save edits in the configure screen it removes the comments so I never worried about it. You need to install the gateway with the DMR Master sever set to a DMR Server not the dmrgateway. After the gateway is installed you set the master dmr server to dmrgateway and the comments are removed by a pi-star script  configure.php that runs every time you press the apply changes button
or you can remove them manually.

I'll try what you suggested and see what happens.  Thanks for the tip.

Yep. removing all comment lines in /etc/dmrgateway corrected all my issues.

Thanks

Actually, now *another* issue.  The dashboard will not populate with any RF or net traffic... just blankly stares at me.

I have seen that as well, but I don't think that it is caused by the gateway. Robert K4WZV has reported the same issue  and has not installed the Gateway,   The DMRGateway does not send any data to the dashboard. It sends and receives data packets from MMDVMHost.  When the dashboard freezes, the DMRGateway is still functioning. I think this is one for TY.

My nano-spot running pi-star 3.4.17 and on the TGIF-Server Master Server (not the DMRGateway) stopped updating the heard list at about 9:43 this morning and restarted at 14:11. I have no idea at this time what caused it to stop  or restart.  The menusn and radios continued to operate normally

I've tried installing the gateway repeatedly from a clean install of pi-star and for the life of me cannot get the last heard dashboard to update.  I do not know what's wrong.  I follow the install to the letter.

There appears to be an issue with 4.0.0 RC3. The pistar.uk forum has several people complaining about the same thing and they are not running the gateway. I have the same issue. the dashboard stops updating and I do an admin/restart. If I turn off the gateway and run the TGIF master Server, it still freezes.  My 3.4.17 does occasionally freeze in master server mode and DMRGateway mode, but not very often.

Maybe a future pi-star revision will address this issue.
