Latest Pi-Star Update Problem and Resolution
« on: January 26, 2024, 04:28:30 pm »
It seems that the latest Pi-Star update caused both of my hotspots to stop working (MMDVMHost red, not connecting to networks, etc.).

I figured out a resolution which worked on both my hotspots (PI-0 and PI-3B). Here it is so that it might benefit others (Caveat: I'm running VE3RD's alternative (ahem SUPERIOR) gateway, so some of this might not be needed in your scenario).

Starting with a working/non-upgraded hotspot:

First, make a backup of your current config files from inside pi-star. Then, do a pi-star update. Next, restore the config that you just made to pi-star. Then, go into configuration, scroll down to Dashboard Language, and select something other than what is there (change from english_us to english_uk or vice-versa). Apply changes and everything should start functioning properly. Note that, as far as I can see, this does not wipe out any expert config changes in the dmrgateway config file...only rearranges the entries a bit. And probably adds whatever's needed for mmdvmhost to start working again somewhere in another config file.

You can make a new backup of your config files at this point.

Finally, if you were using Phil's gateway, you'll need to recompile/reinstall it (since the pi-star update replaces it with a new one). Use his script (GWconfig2.sh) and just do option 5...no need to generate new config files.

Once everything is confirmed working again, don't forget to do new RPI-Clones for when things break again!
