Question from NET : Default Behavior for Hotspots
« on: April 19, 2019, 10:50:01 pm »
We recently made a change in which hotspots no longer auto-join talkgroup 31665 when they connect (unless they were previously connected there).

I wanted to get a quick temperature of where folks sit on that topic.

Thanks

Hi Michael,

While I can certainly see the benefits of auto connecting to 31665, personally, I prefer 4000 over it.

31665 can get pretty busy.  Keying  in a 4000 disconnect via RF in order to shift over to another talkgroup can be...challenging...at times.  And getting to the self-care page on the server website to force a shift isn't always possible/practical.

Side question/possible workaround: Can one override whatever "Default behavior" is selected on TGIF in the Pi-Star configuration with an Options="StartRef=4000" (or StartRef=31665) line?

Yes - You can use the following line:

Options=StartRef=31665;

... to replicate the old behavior.

The syntax is important (including the ; on the end).

I like it. Please keep it on 4000.
